Polyphagous and very widely distributed. Occurs at all stages of crop growth starting from seedling stage. Also attack soybean, tobacco and some flower crops.

  • Use neem based insecticides like 5% neem seed kernel extract (NSKE) and commercial neem based formulations @ 500-600 ml/ha, starting from 45 days age of the crop.

Present in many Old World cotton growing areas. In India Earias insulana is noticed in northern part of the country whereas E. vitella is a common pest in southern region. The pest feeds on alternative host plants like Hibiscus, Holyhock, Sunhemp, China rose, bhendi, pundi, Abutilon indicum etc.
