ABOUT US: Anand Agricultural University (AAU) (http://www.aau.in) Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, Product Processing and Home Science. At present there are three colleges, seventeen research centers and six extension education institutes working in six districts of Gujarat. AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote continues process of development of sustainable growth and economics independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

EDUCATION/ACADEMICS: AAU impacts effective education in agriculture through residential semester system of under-graduate and post-graduate degree programme providing the degrees in three faculties namely Agriculture, Dairy Science and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry. They comprise three distinct yet mutually supportive segments- Education, Research and Extension Education. University offers higher education (UG & PG) in the faculty of Agriculture, Veterinary, Dairy Science, MBA in International Agribusiness, AIT , Food Processing Technology and Agricultural Engineering & Technology. Runs Diploma/Certificate Coursers in the field of Agriculture, Home Science, Poultry, Bakery, Mali and Polytechnic in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering.

RESEARCH: To evolve the technology research is being carried out at 16 research stations. The research is focused on major crops like Paddy, Bajra, Tobacco, Maize, Cotton, Pigeon pea, Vegetable crops, Castor, Sugarcane, Wheat, Forage crops and Horticulture crops. In addition, the research on animal science include areas like live stock management, animal breeding, reproductive biology, animal nutrition and poultry. Under Dairy technology the emphasis is given on milk and its products.

EXTENSION: Extension Education faculties are engaged in extending the advisory services to the farmers including farm Visit, Diagnosis & Recommendation to overcome pests and disease problems, analysis of the soil samples, nutritional and management problems related to agriculture to increase farm income and better rural management. In addition to this, the diploma courses/ training programmes in agriculture, home science, bakery, poultry, horticulture etc. are conducted for the benefits of farming community. The Extension Education Institute imparts the training to extension personal and offices of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Div and Daman to increase the effectiveness of extension education and communication as well as to make the trainees conversant of the principles of Extension Education. University also imparts Training to Extension Functionaries through Extension Education Institute (EEI) and Training & Visit (T & V) System of the development departments.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendras undertake vocational training of farmers, farm woman and rural youth, organizes in services training to field level extension workers, conducts on-farms testing/research for technology assessment and refinement and frontline demonstrations to promptly demonstrate the latest technologies to the farmers as well as extension workers. Besides this, Tribal Training Centers are imparting training to tribal community in the field of agriculture and allied sectors for their upliftment.
