Brown Wheat Mite
Scientific name: Petrobia latens Description
Brown wheat mite is another pest which has gained importance in recent years .Its incidence has been recorded from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. It is a pest of drier areas and is serious under rainfed condition but its incidence in the irrigated crops has been reported. The extent of damage to the crop is dependent upon the severity of incidence. Individual mites are too small to be visible with naked eye without 'effort. Adults are light brown in colour.
Nature of damage
The adults ,which are very small in size as also the young ones(nymphs) suck cell sap from leaves, stem spikes. They Brown wheat cause damage through mite infestation sucking mouth parts. The infected crop looks stunted and yellow, the symptoms .The grains become chaffy and small in infested crop.
Control Measures
1. Seed treatment with thiomethoxam @ 2-30 g/kg seed.
2. Controlled with foliar sprays of phsophamidon, oxydemeton methyl or monocroptophos @ 250, 160 and 200 a.i./ha, respectively.
3. The treatment needs repetition after 15 days interval depending on the pest incidence.
