Cropping system

·         Crop Rotations -

In sub-tropics, sugarcane is grown in rotation with rabi crops as wheat, potato, gram, mustard, peas, rice, maize, sorghum, cotton. In Maharashtra, the common rotational crops are wheat, gram/sorghum and cotton. In Tropical states, rice is most common rotational crop.

·         Inter-cropping: Sugarcane germination and easily growth is slow so intercrop may be taken as crop is planted in wide space.

Autumn planted cane: Potato, Lahi, Mustard, Garlic, Onion, Flower, Lentil may be taken.

Spring planted cane- Green gram, Urd, Lobia, Onion, Lady’s finger.

Apply extra dose of fertilizer.

It gives extra income and control weeds at early stage.
