Distinguishing Features of Phalaris Minor and Wheat

Phalaris Minor

Wheat

1. Basal node remains pink in color up to 50 days of plant growth.

2. Ligule is approximately three times large to that of wheat with no auricle.

3. Leaf color is light green.

4. Tillering is of rossete type.

5. Tillers branch.

6. Produce 10,000 to 30,000 seeds per plants.

7. Test weight is 2 g.

8. Seeds are dark brown, oval in shape and much smaller than wheat.

1. Basal node is greenish yellow.

2. Ligule is very small and is formed with two leaf ears (auricles), which in most cases are hairy.

3. Dark green leaf, depends upon the variety.

4. It grows erect.

5. Tillers do not branch.

6. Produce 60-70 seeds per plant.

7. Test weight is about 40 g.

8. Seeds are amber in color, hard and of bigger size.
