It is serious problem on developing fruits in litchi. Splits fruits are unmarketable and thus results in a great loss to the growers. High temperature (above 380C), low humidity (below 60%) and low soil moisture conditions during fruit development promote this disorder. Sharp fluctuations in the day and night temperature coupled with heavy irrigation after dry spells contributes towards fruit cracking. An adequate irrigation to the bearing trees during fruit growth and development is beneficial.
Control:
- Irrigate the orchard at a regular interval to maintain the moisture in the field.
- 3-Foliar sprays of 1% borax at 15 days interval should be given at pea stage.
- By mulching
- By planting wind break around the orchard.
- By sprinkler irrigation.
