ABOUT US: Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, ndua&t, (http://www.nduat.ernet.in/) is an agricultural university at Faizabad district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is in the small town of Milkipur Constituency known as Kumarganj. Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology was established in 1975 as the Third Agricultural University of the state and named after a great national leader, educationist, philosopher and great socialist, Achraya Narendra Deva.
EDUCATION/ACADEMICS: The University offers Undergraduate Programmes, Postgraduate Programmes and Ph.D Courses. It has 20 departments at present which includes, Dept. of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Statistics, (Statics, Maths, Physics/Bio-Physics),Agronomy, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Crop Physiology, Entomology, Extension Education, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Technology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Dept. of Languages, Microbiology, Nematology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Dept. of Vegetable Science.
Presently following colleges are in affiliation with the University -- College of Veterinary Science, College of Agriculture, College of Home Science, College of Agriculture Engineering, College of Biotechnology, College of Horticulture, College of Fisheries and College of Forestry.
RESEARCH: The major research thrust in crop production has been to develop high yielding varieties of all important crops resistant to biotic and a biotic stresses. As a result, the university has so far developed 101 improved varieties of various crops out of which 84 varieties have been released at central/state level and the rest have been identified for release. Research work is carried on various Crops & Cereals like: Rice, Urd, Arhar, Mung, Wheat, Barley, Gram, Dwarf pea, Lentil, Toria, Linseed. The Directorate of Research, which is headed by the Director Agricultural Experiment Station (DAES), is solely responsible for overall supervision, guidance and co-ordination of need based and production oriented agricultural research in 25 districts belonging to seven revenue divisions viz; Faizabad, Basti, Devipatan, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Azamgarh and Vindhyachal Dham of eastern U.P.
EXTENSION: The Extension Education activities of the University started with only a few Subject Matter Specialists at the University Headquarter. At present, however, the extension activities are being accomplished through headquarter, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Krishi Gyan Kendras. The Directorate functions and disseminates the latest technological innovations through Farm Advisory, Training and Information and Communication services wings by involving the scientists of the different departments of the University and Research institutions. It aims to serve as an active link between research, extension and farmers and provide critical feed back to the university research on one hand and the main extension system on the other.
Krishi Vigyan Kendras: The KVK is an innovative transfer of technology project, which has been launched with the aim to reduce the time gap between the generation of technology and its adoption. Therefore, in view of need and importance, farmers and farm women are being trained with the latest know-how by organizing different type of on-campus and off-campus trainings.
Krishi Gyan Kendra: KGKs are the centre of Farm Advisory and perform their duty by organizing demonstrations, validation trials, trainings, kisan mela, gosthi, field day etc. These Kendras are financed by State Government under Non Plan and Plan Schemes.
Farm Advisory Services: farm Advisory Services in addition to Front Line Demonstration, other demonstration/ trials for technology testing for the area, varietal trials on various latest crop varieties released or in pipe line are being done at the farm of KVKs and farmers field, every year. The trials are being conducted in consultation with the NDUAT scientists. These institutions also provide farm information services through literature, exhibition, training, camps, radio, and television talks, field days as well as print media.
Other Programmes of Directorate Of Extension are: Front Line Demonstration, Field days, kisan Samman diwas, Krisk Help line, kisan call centre, farmer fair, Training & visit programme, training services, farmer fair, resource conservation technology.
