Bark eating caterpillar

The caterpillars feed on the bark of the tree during night. They bore inside the trunk or main stems and eat through the bark in to the wood. The affected portion is covered with large silken webs. In case of severe infestation plants may die.

Control: A small metal wire is inserted in to the hole to kill the caterpillar. The holes are then plugged with cotton wool soaked in kerosene oil or sulphos tablet and sealed with mud.

Litchi Bug

It is of brown colour insect and badly affects the litchi fruits. It sucks the sap from the litchi fruit. At severe condition the small fruits drop.

Control: Monocrotophos @ 0.1 per cent in April month should be sprayed. Thereafter spray of 0.2 per cent Endosulphon should be done after 15 days.

Leaf minor in litchi

It is a major pest of litchi in Bihar. The larvae mine the leaves in August to February. The damaged shoot eventually die and drop off.

Control: Spray of Endosulphan or Imedachlorpid @ 0.1 per cent.
