Long-duration varieties
In traditional production systems, pigeonpea generally has a low plant population, less than 5 plants m2. But, 10 plants m2 gave marginally higher yields in intercrops.
Short duration Varieties
Short duration pigeonpea with close spacing
- In peninsular India, the optimum plant population is about 30 plants m2 adopting a row-to-row spacing of 30 cm and plant-to-plant spacing of 10 cm.
- Cool post-rainy season in India requires 12-30 plants m2.
