Price Forecast of Maize Crop
In India, Nizamabad (AP) and Davanagere (Karnataka) are two major maize markets in terms of market turnover. For analyzing price trend, spot prices of Davanagere, Koppal and Kottur were considered. The price trend of maize in Davanagere, Koppal and Kottur markets were revealed that prices will be on their peak during the months of July to August. From September onwards prices start declining owing to start of arrivals of kharif season. About 70 percent of maize production in Karnataka is during kharif season alone. Based on the above market fundamentals, the expected prices would range Rs.1241 to Rs.1473 per quintal during October to December 2012. The Government of India has announced MSP for maize of Rs. 1175 per quintal for kharif 2012-13.
Looking at this trend we expect steady movement in maize prices during current year given the policy, market, consumption pattern and weather conditions in the country.
