Rainfed lowland ecosystem

Rainfed  lowland rice (including deepwater ) of which 92 per cent is distributed in eastern India ( Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern  U P and Chhattisgarh) and north eastern states. The fields which are bunded , get flooded to a depth ranging from zero to more than one metre . About 63 per cent (10.6 Mha ) of lowland rice area has shallow flood water depths of 0-30cm for at least 10 days ,13 per cent (2.2M ha) with 30 -50 cm flood water depth and nearly 23.4 per cent (3.90Mha) under deepwater rice with more than 50 cm flooding.
