Rice Caseworm

            The caterpillar's damage before the maximum tillering stage by scrap the leaf tissue mainly in August to November period.Characteristics leaf damage has horizontal rows and rolls them to form tubular cases. Larvae are nocturnal hence hide in case during day and crawl out in night. The case helps the larva to float on water surface. The pupation takes place inside the tubular case.

Management

• Pass a rope over the young crop for dislodging the larval cases from plants and then drain the water to eliminate them.
• Remove excess nurseries and weeds from the field and bunds.
• Ensure alternate wetting and drying of the fields.
• Avoid excess use of nitrogen.
• Set up right traps to monitor and control population.
