- Sequential cropping refers to growing crops in sequence within a crop year, one crop being sown after the harvest of the other.
- When two or more crops are grown in a year on the same land, the system is referred to be double cropping or multiple cropping.
Example: Rice followed by pigeonpea, Pigeonpea followed by wheat.
Sole crop of short-duration Pegionpea cultivar
- The new short-duration (140-160 days) high yielding pigeonpea cultivars are grown as sole crops (Fig.52).
- Pigeonpea-wheat sequential cropping has spread widely in irrigated areas of northern and central India.
- Pigeonpea could also be grown after rice crop.
- These short-duration genotypes have lead to the introduction of pigeonpea into non-traditional areas.
