• Sowing the seed behind the plough or drilling.
  

The seed rate for broad casting are usually made very high i.e. 80-120 kg/ha but for line sowing with seed drill the seed rate of 35-50 kg/ha is optimum. The seed depth should usually be 2-3 cm for good crop stand.

The success of the direct seeded rice depends entirely on the monsoon rains, besides proper stand of crop. If sowing is done in a properly prepared land, proper stand of crop can be achieved.
