Proper plant spacing is one of the important factors to obtain a good yield in rice. The spacing depends on several factors, such as the plant type, variety, season, fertility level, age of seedlings, date of transplanting and management practices. The spacing should be wider for high tillering, tall, leafy and lodging susceptible varieties than for low tillering dwarf, less leafy and lodging tolerant varieties, wider for late varieties than for early varieties, wider for wet season than for dry season, winder in high fertility level than under poor fertility conditions, wider for normal seedling than for aged seedlings, wider for timely planting than for late planting and wider under good management practices than under sub-normal practices.
