Timely sown                : 23 cm at 5 cm depth

Late sown                   : 18 cm at 5 cm depth

Seed rate 

            In case of line sowing and normal sown condition seed rate is kept 100 kg/ha (in hilly region it is 2 kg per Nali) while in case of broadcasting seed rate is increased by 25 per cent. In case of late sowing also seed rate should be increased by 25 per cent.

Seed treatment

        To ensure good germination seed must be treated with fungicide like Thirum @ 2.5 g/kg seed. Where there is problem of loose smut treat the seeds with Carbendazim (Bavistin 50WP) @ 2.5 g/kg seed or Carboxin (Vitavax 75 WP) @ 1.5g/kg seed to facilitate speedy germination in case of late sowings. Seeds may be soaked overnight followed by drying in shed before sowing.
