As per latest available date, word average potato during 2007-09 was 325.84 million tones with average area covering under potato was 18.35 million hectare. India ranks 2nd in terms of production while ranks 3rd as per area under potato cultivation. India has share of 10% total potato production in world. China ranks top with approx 20% share in total potato production worldwide. The top ten country’s details are provided in below:

What about South America?

What about South America? Countries like Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia are prime potato growing regions. In fact potato plant has its origins in South America. In Europe, Ireland is a large producer.
