Important Phases of Sugarcane

 

1. Germination Phase up to 60 days after planting- Weed control is important practice at this stage.
2. Formative Stage: 60-130 days after planting- Heavy water requirement at this stage in north India.
3. Grand Phase: 130-250 days after planting- Heavy water requirement at this stage in north India.
4. Maturing Phase: 250-365 days after planting- For proper maturity, spray Balsario chemical @4.5 kg per hectare in 1000 litres of water. It enhances maturity 6-8 weeks earlier. Chemical ripener such as Polaris and Sodium metasilicate improve the juice sucrose when spray on foliage 6 weeks before scheduled harvesting
