Nitrogen deficiency

1. Plants are stunted
2. Leaves are smaller than normal
3. Leaves are yellow
4. Shoots are thin
5. Pods are tough

1. Application of nitrogen fertilizer at optimum dose. The dose may be determined by soil test. In absence of soil testing. 40 - 150 kg N/ha may be applied.
2. Three or four consecutive foliar sprays with 1% urea solution at an interval of 10 days.
3. Six foliar sprays with 2% urea solution at an interval of 7 days starting from 20 days after sowing (TN)

2)

Phosphorus deficiency

1. Plants are stunted
2. Leaves are dark green

1. Application of phosphorus fertilizer at optimum dose. The dose may be determined by soil test. in absence of soil testing. 8-75 kg P2O5/ha may be applied.

3)

Potassium deficiency

1. Number of leaves are low
2. Leaf margins are brown yellow, brown or scorched
3. Abscission of scorched leaves

1. Application of potassium fertilizer at optimum dose. The dose may be determined by soil test. In absence of soil testing, 20 - 75 kg potash /ha may be applied.

4)

Magnesium deficiency

1. Lower leaves show yellow spots
2. Veins are green

1. foliar spray with 1 - 2 % magnesium sulphate (MgSO4.7 H2O) may be tried. Before recommendation, trials are needed.

5)

Manganese deficiency

1. Leaves show   chlorosis.

1. foliar spray with 0.6% manganese sulphate + 0.3% lime may be tried. Before recommendation trials are needed.

6)

Zinc deficiency

1. Number of leaves are low
2. Leaves are smaller
3. Leaves are mottled
4. Stem is thin

1. Broadcasting of zinc sulphate @ 4.5 - 9.0 kg/ha along with NPK fertilizers.
2. band placement of zinc sulphate @ 2.2 - 4.5 kg/ha  along with NPK  fertilizers
3. foliar spray with zinc sulphate @ 0.7 kg Zn/ha.
4. foliar spray with Zn- EDTA @ 0.17 kg Zn / ha.
5. foliar spray with zinc sulphate @ 0.56 - 1.1 kg Zn/ ha.
6. foliar spray with zinc sulphate @ 1.4 Zn /ha.
