Chemical Control:
Maize crop is sensitive to weed competition during early crop growth period for first 3 – 4 weeks. 2-3 days after maize sowing (before germination), pre-emergence application of Atrazine 1.5-2 kg. /ha. mixed in 500 lts. of water (2.5-3 g. /lt.) is recommended. This prevents the emergence of weeds up to 30 days after sowing. Precautions to be taken are:
Use adequate amount of water.
Ensure proper moisture in soil. To check, take a fistful of soil and press. It should form a soft lump.

Recent times heliothis and spodoptera attacked the Maize crop particularly at cob initiation stage. Pest attack is observed during kharief of 09 &10 in parts of kurnool , Nizamabad,Karimnagar districts. Farmers has been used new products like Flubendiamide 20 % WDG,Emamectin Etc.
