State Punjab : Recommended Variety
- AL-15 - It is a short duration variety with determinate growth. This variety matures in about 135 days. The plants are compact and short statured attaining a height of about 1.5 to 1.8 meters. Pods are borne in clusters at the top of plant and maturity is relatively synchronous. Podding is profuse and each pod contains 3-5 yellowish brown and medium sized seeds. It gives and average yield of 12-15 quintals per hectare.
- AL-201 - It is an early maturing variety with indeterminate growth habit. It matures in 140 days and vacates the field by the end of October to mid November permitting timely sowing of wheat crop. The plants are erect and about 2.5 meter tall. Pod formation is profuse and each pod contains 3.5 yellowish brown, medium sized seeds. The average grain yield is about 15-16 quintals per hectare.
- PPH-4 - It is the first Arhar hybrid in Punjab. It matures in 145 days. The plants are erect and about 2.5 to 3.0 meter tall. Branching and pod formation is profuse and each pod contains 5 yellowish brown seeds of medium size. Its average garin yield is about 18-20 quintals per hectare.
- UPAS-120 - It is an extra early maturing (120-125 days) selection evolved at Pantnagar. Plants are medium tall, open and of semi-spreading type. Standard color is yellow with red streaks on it. Seeds are small (67 g per 1000 seeds) and light brown in color. The fruiting is well distributed in the branches. The average yield is 16-20 quintals per hectare. It escapes frost due to its extra maturity duration. It is most suitable for double cropping with wheat in the northern parts of the country. It is susceptible to sterility mosaic disease.
- Paras (H 82-1) - This variety was released for cultivation in Haryana state. It matures in 140-145 days. Plants of Paras are medium tall with more number of branches and pods. Plants growth habit is indeterminate. The seeds are small, smooth and brown in color. Yield potential is 18-22 quintals per hectare.
- Manak (H 77-216) - This variety was released for general cultivation in Haryana states. It matures in 130-135 days. Plants of Manak are medium tall and indeterminate in growth habit. Variety is tolerant to drought and wide range of temperature. Yield potential is 18-20 quintals per hectare.
