Weed management in Pigeonpea
Chemical weed control
- One day before sowing or before weed emergence spray Pendimethalin @ 3ml. or Alachlor @ 2.2ml per litre of water
- Use 200-240 litre of spraying solution per acre
- Care should be taken to maintain optimum soil moisture condition during herbicide application.
Cultural weed control
- Take up one hand weeding at 20-25 days after sowing (DAS)
- Take up two to three intercultivation operations at 15 to 20DAS.
Weed management in mixed cropping systems
Mixed cropping systems
- Pigeonpea + Blackgram
- Pigeonpea + Greengram
- Pigeonpea + Sorghum
- Pigeonpea + Niger
(i) At the time of sowing or one day after sowing of mixed crop take up soil application of Fluchloralin @ 2.7 ml (45 %) or Alachlor @ 4ml (50 %) per litre of water.
(ii) At the time of herbicide application soil should be friable and should contain optimum moisture.
(iii) Requirement of spraying chemical per acre – 300 lit.
