Spacing:

Season of Planting:

Planting is normally done during June-July. If good irrigation facilities are available then planting may also be done in Feb-March.

Pit Digging:

Pits of size 1 m3 are dug at the desired points a few weeks before planting. The refilled top-soils are mixed with FYM (20-25 kg), neem cake (2 kg), 1 kg SSP and 500 gm MOP. After refilling, the pits are immediately watered to set this mixture.

 Method of Planting:

One year old healthy plants with fine roots should be selected for planting and planted by making a small hole in the centre of the pit sufficient to the earth ball. It is advisable that the new plants should be inoculated with 100 gm VAM per pit. The land should not be allowed to dry completely. Planting should be immediately followed by irrigation. In case of high wind, plants are tied to the stake.
